Middlewater Baptist church of Southern Africa, has its roots in the work of American Missionaries in South Africa. An uneducated man Jacob Tshalata ordinary preacher of the Gospel of Christ in the South Coastal town of Harding in the Province of KwaZulu Natal, Republic of South Africa heard of the great work done by American Preachers including Dr East, Dr Buchanan and others and linked up with them via an interpreter.
His Son, Rev Luke Tshalata, studied at the American Missionary school in Qanda (Eastern Cape), was ordained, and later became Moderator of the National Baptist Church of Southern Africa, and founded Middlewater Baptist Church, and was stationed at Pisgah Mission Station in Harding.
